"Inhabitant" October 2018
Inspired by experiences in my childhood backyard, "Inhabitant" is an installation that perfectly fits a small space I used to play in between two bushes. My younger sister and I would pretend that little 'fort' was a house. it was a safe space for both of us to explore and play.
As we inhabited that space in our backyard as kids, this organism inhabits the space now. My initial plan was for the piece to be a little hut that the viewer could enter and interact with, but as I was shaping the frame out of wire, the hut slowly became an organism in itself. The thin wire made the piece wiggle and bounce like a breathing creature. The delicate plaster wrap mimics the delicate skin of a cocoon, the exposed wire inside the piece is like a ribcage.
